Falling From Grace...

We found out recently that the youth pastor at a church my wife once attended quite a few years ago was found with exploitative and pornographic materials on his work computer.

As this scandal unfolds, unconnected pieces from years past - unanswered questions, puzzling circumstances (unnamed abuses and assaults in a small, rural town) - begin to fit together and paint an even darker image.

That night, Jen wept and I choked back tears and nausea. “I trusted him,” Jen said in shock.

He was a friend and confidant to her - a good natured peer, 25 years old. I didn’t know him well, but had liked him when I met him.

So I don’t really know what to feel. I’m angry, as young ladies close to us have been victimized not only by this sad predator but by a church that allowed a young man to lead a co-ed ministry without proper supervision or accountability.

But I’ve seen the same at churches I’ve attended. This type of tragic negligence is nothing new…

Forgive me while this anger burns a little while.

All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
Psalm 14:3

I just quickly read this and am typing the first things that come to mind. This subject is something I've thought about quite a bit. Being a youth helper I can see how easy somebody could take advantage if they had that perversion. One thing I have observed from family stories and this and that is this stuff isn't new. Its just used to be easier to hide and harder to commit. Society was not favorible to those who spoke up because the position these clerics held. "they must be respected" But now a days the playing field is level in someways. Also in todays world its easier to commit because of technology. You have web cams, micro cams, No film developing-just click click. As for real victim contact I guess thats the same now as it is in the past.

What I have been trying to figure out is are these people: Like this and being like that they are attracted to these position or Does it grow from something smaller into this. Or are they acting out what has happened to them in the past when they were a victim. There is a train of thought that leads victims into becoming the victimizer that I read about, very interesting. Sad because of how easy becoming the perp happens if a victim doesn't deal with what happened correctly. Or can it be any of the above because we are broken creations. In being broken any route is possible to become perverse.

I would like to delve in deeper but I still haven't got a good big picture of the problem. Not that a big picture is needed to deal with the current problems.

One other note, In the past christians and mabey everybody understood that you don't have to satisfy all desires. Now days the social thought is its horrible to have to suppress our desires. Think about that. Are we being taught now in these days that restraint is horrible(something so bad you won't make it though).

I'm having to many thought about society and blah blah blahhhhhhhhhh, I have to stop. ha
